Men are always in search of two things: food and the perfect shirt. Okay, yeah, I may have missed a few “key” things, but these two are imperative for survival.
The importance of a well-fitting shirt is up there with showering. If a shirt is too tight, you’ll look like a condom. If a shirt is too big, you’ll also look like the condom of someone who thinks “bigger” than they ought to.
Recently, I got to partner up with Vastros — a shirt company out of San Francisco that understands the effect a shirt can have on the body inside it. Vastros sent over one of their shirts called the Country Club for me to try out and style with my regular attire. I’m happy to report that I was pleasantly surprised at how body-friendly this shirt is.
First off, the Vastros vision encapsulates the modern-day office attire. They’re on a mission to rid the workplace of grey suit/blue shirt monotony. They want to bridge the gap between business casual and business professional, which is where many of us find ourselves today. It can get confusing, and that’s where Vastros chimes in.
I’m 5’11”, 170 lbs., a medium-ish shirt and a 32 waist, for context. I have the most slightly above average body you’ve ever encountered.But this shirt is one of the best in my closet as far as hugging my midsection and arm holes are concerned. That is no easy feat when shopping off the rack, but Vastros has done it. Their shirts are a “slim fit,” which means something different to every shirt manufacturer. But the Vastros slim is tailored to gently hug your body the way I believe it should be.
Fit drives the look, but so does detail, and Vastros considers that during the design process. Each shirt has been meticulously curated from the color, to the print, to the contrast collars and cuffs, and even the stitching. Even the length, with the ability to be tucked in or untucked at any given moment.
Each part of these shirts have a purpose. The Country Club, my shirt, has a brown maze print layered over diagonal stripes with a contrasting lining in brown, tan, and blue tattersall and blue buttonhole stitching. I’m not going to go into a store at my local mall and just find something this intricate because it doesn’t exist there.
